Independent Living Services

Harmony Home offers Independent Living Services (ILS) to people who choose to live in their own home within the community. Individuals interested in this service may be living with family, in a board and care home, or other supervised setting and would like to move into their own home. Others may already be living in their own home and would like additional instruction or support. Generally, a comprehensive assessment is conducted to determine the person’s abilities, needs and preferences. Skill areas assessed are Personal, Domestic, Financial, Community Awareness and Health and Safety. Other areas of assessment include risk factors, responsibility and motivation. A service plan is developed with the person based on their needs. Initially, ILS focuses on the individual acquiring the skills necessary to live an independent lifestyle. Once the person attains the skills to the best of their ability, services can be designed to provide on-going support. Instruction and support is provided on a 1:1 basis in the person’s natural environment. Services are reviewed semi-annually and adapted to meet the changing needs and desires of the individual.
